Bernie, a 12 year old on the verge of manhood is anticipating the biggest day of his life being everything he's ever dream of being, but his first lesson in his new adult life is that things sometimes go according to plan.

Heres the write up:

England, the summer of ‘66 and the country is about to be consumed by World Cup Fever. For 12-year-old Bernie (GREGG SULKIN), the biggest day of his life is looming, the day he becomes a man - his Bar Mitzvah. However Bernie’s North London family seems a little distracted. His father Manny (EDDIE MARSAN) is concerned about the giant supermarket opening opposite his grocery shop, a business he shares with his more charismatic younger brother, Jimmy (PETER SERAFINOWICZ) — and it’s making Manny’s bizarre obsessive compulsive disorder even worse than usual. Between worrying about Manny and Bernie’s older brother Alvie (BEN NEWTON), mother Esther (HELENA BONHAM CARTER) barely has time to notice her better behaved younger son, and the only attention Bernie ever gets from Alvie is a punch for stepping onto the wrong side of their shared bedroom. Bernie believes his Bar Mitzvah is about to change all this. He’ll no longer be the kid everyone ignores, and he envisions and begins to plan the perfect ceremony and reception, where everyone assembled will acknowledge his new status as a man. Unfortunately for Bernie, things don’t quite go according to plan.

In an instant, Av’s lifelong friend is gone, the victim of a cruel, senseless act. Devastated, Av determines to find out who the boys are and why they did it. Helped by a local reporter (Dickens), Av tries to expose the truth, but his efforts are ignored by authorities and mocked by the teenagers. The boys’ parents, a rich local businessman (Sizemore) and, across town, a hardscrabble laborer (Englund) and his wife (Plummer), are just as determined to keep Av down. But, faithful to the memory of his best friend, Av single-mindedly presses for justice-with or without the law on his side.

In Search Of A Midnight Kiss

Release Date : August 1st 2008
Craigs List gets a nod in this movie, as a young man lays it all on the line to find love before New Years Eve. Its shot in black and white and has a semi documentaryt feel to it, reminds me of Spike Lee's "She's Gotta Have It" without Mars. This movie will have a few laughs in it so if your into finding romance before a certain hour, go see this flick... Who knows? You may be in love before the credits role.

Heres the write up:

From emerging, award-winning filmmaker Alex Holdridge and the producer of BEFORE SUNRISE and DAZED AND CONFUSED, IN SEARCH OF A MIDNIGHT KISS is a funny and bittersweet look at love, sex, and modern romance. With an unsold script, no concrete plans, and a love life reduced to getting caught in compromising positions (alone!), a twenty-nine-year aspiring writer, Wilson (Scoot McNairy) just had the worst year of his life. That is until his best friend, Jacob (Brian Matthew McGuire), browbeats him into posting a personal ad for New Year’s Eve on Craig’s List. When Vivian (Sara Simmonds), a sexy, sarcastic, and seemingly blind-date-from-hell responds, the two strangers embark on an unexpected, chaotic, and hilariously awkward journey through the black-and-white streets of Los Angeles hoping to meet the right one before the stroke of midnight. A truly original love letter to Los Angeles, IN SEARCH OF A MIDNIGHT KISS captures a lost downtown rarely seen on screen along with the hearts of critics and audiences alike.

Felon

This trailer takes me back to a great movie. American History X starring Ed Norton. (awesome flick) Although I dont see the racial overtones in this movie, the guy kills a trespasser and ends up in jail, where he has to adjust or get adjusted. Same premise. Anyways, Heres the write up:

Val Kilmer (Columbus Day, Conspiracy), Stephen Dorff (Black Water Transit, World Trade Center), Harold Perrineau, Jr. (The Matrix Revolutions, TV’s “Lost”) and Sam Shepard (The Accidental Husband, Stealth) star in the high-action and edge-of-your-seat prison film, Felon, the story of a family man who is convicted of murder for killing an intruder who enters his home, threatening the lives of his wife and son. As he struggles to survive the violent penal system which includes a maximum-security state prison in which a corrupt lieutenant tries to maintain power and order, even if it means crossing the line. Also starring Anne Archer (End Game, Man of the House).

Ludacris in the movies

BEVERLY HILLS—Move over Reggie Jackson there’s a new Mr. October on the scene.
Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, who has made just under 10 feature films since making his big-screen debut in “The Wash,” will have two movies bowing on the same day in October. I caught up with Bridges at the recent Television Critics Association press tour where he was promoting his new Green Planet TV show “Battleground Earth: Ludacris vs. Tommy Lee.”
“It’s important to let you know that both ‘RocknRolla,’ which is the Guy Ritchie movie and ‘Max Payne,’ both come out on Oct. 17,” Bridges said. “Yes, so you can call me Mr. October, that’s my new name! And then the album called ‘Theater of the Mind’ is coming out the Tuesday after that.”
After receiving critical praise for his roles in “Crash,” “Hustle & Flow,” and “Fred Claus,” what gives the ATL-based rapper more pleasure these days—music or movies?
“It’s still a little bit of both,” he said. “I still feel like I’m still a little new to the movie game. I know that sounds crazy but I’ve been doing music my whole entire life. I’m very passionate about music but the challenge for the movies is starting to become addictive. Me taking on different roles, I’m just trying to find out where my limitations are and I’m starting to realize that I have more talent than I even realized I had in the acting game. So, with that being said, it’s like it’s both.”

'Dark Knight' Shatters Opening-Day Mark

The Dark Knight banked an astonishing $66.4 mil on Friday to set a new record for the biggest opening-day gross in box office history. The old mark of $59.8 mil was achieved by Spider-Man 3 in 2007. That film went on to earn $151.1 mil over the course of its first three-day frame, a sum that The Dark Knight now appears able to match.

Early Friday, the second Batman movie from star Christian Bale and director Christopher Nolan also broke the record for the most money earned in midnight screenings, taking in $18.5 mil from shows that started at 12:01 a.m. Check in to EW.com on Sunday for a full weekend recap.
I think we all expected this with all the hype, mystery, and death surrounding this installment of the Batman movies. I also think it'll go on to beat all of Spidey's records this time. All I'm hearing is good things from the midnight going, Joker-make up wearing, fans of this dark comic book hero.

Batman: The Dark Knight (new footage)

Heres something I dig up on Youtube. Interviews of the cast and some bonus footage for those of us who cant seem to wait til Friday :)

TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern day love story between a vampire and a human. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother remarries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn’t expect much of anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she’s ever met. Intelligent and witty, he sees straight into her soul. Soon, Bella and Edward are swept up in a passionate and decidedly unorthodox romance. Edward can run faster than a mountain lion, he can stop a moving car with his bare hands - and he hasn’t aged since 1918. Like all vampires, he’s immortal. But he doesn’t have fangs, and he doesn’t drink human blood; Edward and his family are unique among vampires in their lifestyle choice. To Edward, Bella is that thing he has waited 90 years for - a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. But what will Edward & Bella do when James (Cam Gigandet), Laurent (Edi Gathegi) and Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre), the Cullens’ mortal vampire enemies, come to town, looking for her?

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button

This movie features Benjamin Button, played by Brad Pitt, as old man who physically ages backward. He is born an old man and ages in reverse until he becomes a baby and then finally vanishes from the earth. I love seeing movies with odd twist like this, It reminds me of Dorian Grey, the guy the never aged thanks to his magic mirror, but not quite. This one doesn't come out until December 19th so Im sure we will see a couple more trailers before then. Stay tuned.

The Long Shots

Ice Cube is back again with another kid friendly, mother approved movie, this time he's a coach of a little league football team, whose quarter back just happens to be a girl. Kicking It

In Theatres: June 13th, 2008

Documentary
Rating: NR

In the summer of 2006, while the football world's attention was focused on Germany, thousands of players around the globe were training hard and competing to be part of the World Cup...The Homeless World Cup. It began in 2001 as a wild idea by a Scot and an Austrian—to give homeless people a chance to change their lives through an international street soccer competition. Five years later, the annual Homeless World Cup had become an internationally recognized sports competition. 500 homeless players from 48 nations would ultimately be selected to represent their country in Cape Town, South Africa—coming from such disparate parts of the world as war torn Afghanistan, the slums of Kenya, the drug rehab clinics of Dublin, Ireland, the streets of Charlotte, North Carolina, the overflowing public shelters of Madrid, Spain, and the unforgiving city of St. Petersburg, Russia, where the homeless have no rights or identity. Win or lose, for these players it would be the journey of a lifetime. The film follows seven players in their own tough worlds as they confront the daily challenges of life on the streets, battle drug and alcohol addiction, and fight for the right to be recognized as human beings. We witness their struggles, hopes, and determination. The teams are greeted by the South African President, as they make their spirited entrance in to two newly built street soccer "pitches", located at the precise spot where Nelson Mandela was released from prison—with the glorious Table Mountain as the backdrop. Nobel Peace Laureate Desmond Tutu joins the players, declaring homelessness the new "apartheid." For 7 days of fiercely competitive matches, the teams vie for the championship cups. Despite the fact that they may not have a home, the players wear the colors of their country with pride. From shattering misconceptions about the homeless to seeing people living at the edge of society discover that they also can be winners, the film shows in a real and powerful way that sports can and does change lives. As the Russian coach observes, "To me, football is the best model for real life. There is no last game in football and there is no last game in real life. You always have another chance to win."

Eagle Eye

Ive had this trailer for about a month now showing in the forums but I think its time to come out of hiding.

I first saw this trailer when I went to see Indiana Jones and it immediate reminded me of the scene from The Matrix, where Neo is getting instructions on the phone as he dodges cops at his job, but im really curious to see and hear more about this film.  It looks like 2008 is Shia LaBeouf's year! Heres the write up:

In the fast-paced race-against-time-thriller “Eagle Eye” Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan are two strangers who become the pawns of a mysterious woman they have never met, but who seems to know their every move. Realizing they are being used to further her diabolical plot, they must work together to outwit the woman before she has them killed.

Choke

September 26th 2008
Rated R
Comedy

Actor-turned-director Clark Gregg shows he is as adept behind the camera as he is in front of it with CHOKE, a wickedly colorful dark comedy about mothers and sons, sexual compulsion, and the sordid underbelly of Colonial theme parks. Victor Mancini (Rockwell), a sex-addicted med-school dropout, who keeps his increasingly deranged mother, Ida (Huston), in an expensive private medical hospital by working days as a historical reenactor at a Colonial Williamsburg theme park. At night Victor runs a scam by deliberately choking in upscale restaurants to form parasitic relationships with the wealthy patrons who “save” him. When, in a rare lucid movement, Ida reveals that she has withheld the shocking truth of his father’s identity, Victor enlists the aid of his best friend, Denny (Henke) and his mother’s beautiful attending physician, Dr. Paige Marshall (Macdonald), to solve the mystery before the truth of his possibly divine parentage is lost forever.

Boy A

Who Decides Who Gets A Second Chance?

This movie looks interesting and I thinks asks a very important question about who is ultimately in control of who participates in society and and who does not. the fact of the matter is no one can predict the future behavior of any man or woman whether they have perpetrated a crime or not in their past. So any faith in those who control those decisions is undeserved. this story appears to shed light on this young man who once released did something extraordinary and is hailed as a hero, but those same accolades that celebrate him, dig up a past that turn those cheers into a display of society's uglier side.

We'll see more as this movie comes closer to release.

Bottle Neck

There are certain moments in history when America has proven itself to the world: Neil Armstrong setting foot on the Moon; or the US Men’s Hockey team beating the Soviet Union in the 1980 Olympics. One such moment, however, never got the recognition it deserved: In 1976, a small American winery bested the exalted French wines of the time and sent the wine industry into a tizzy - putting California wines on the map for good. Based on a true story, Bottle Shock chronicles the events leading up to the famous ‘Judgment of Paris’ tastings, told through the lives of father and son, Jim and Bo Barrett. A former real estate attorney, Jim (Bill Pullman) sacrificed everything to realize his dream of creating the perfect hand-crafted chardonnay. His business, however, is struggling, and he’s not only trying to overcome differences with his slacker son (Chris Pine), but is also fighting off the creditors. Meanwhile in Paris, unwitting British wine shop owner Steven Spurrier (Alan Rickman) hopes to revive his own failing business by sponsoring a competition which will pit the traditional French powerhouse against the California upstarts. Little did Steven and Jim realize that they were both on course to change the history of wine forever.

The Wackness

It’s the summer of 1994, and the streets of New York are pulsing with hip-hop and wafting with the sweet aroma of marijuana—but change is in the air. The newly-inaugurated mayor, Rudy Giuliani, is beginning to implement his anti-fun initiatives against “crimes” like noisy portable radios, graffiti and public drunkenness. Set against this backdrop, Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck) spends his last summer before college selling dope throughout New York City, trading it with his shrink (Ben Kingsley) for therapy, while crushing on his step daughter (Olivia Thirlby). Famke Janssen, Mary Kate Olsen, and Method Man round out the cast in this edgy, bittersweet, and funny coming of age story.

Hotel For Dogs

Who can resist a movie with well trained dogs and a great story line? I know my kids cant, I expect this movie will do very well for all the Lassie lovers left in the world.

Frozen River

Synopsis: Frozen River is the story of Ray Eddy, an upstate New York trailer mom who is lured into the world of illegal immigrant smuggling when she meets a Mohawk girl who lives on a reservation that straddles the US-Canadian border. Broke after her husband takes off with the down payment for their new doublewide, Ray reluctantly teams up with Lila, a smuggler, and the two begin making runs across the frozen St. Lawrence River carrying illegal Chinese and Pakistani immigrants in the trunk of Ray’s Dodge Spirit.

Who wouldve thought that we would ever see a movie about an immigration issue focusing on the Northern US Border?

The Day the Earth Stood Still

We haven't had a movie title that long since 1951, In fact there was a title of the same name for this remake of the 1951 classic sci-fi film about an alien visitor and his giant robot counterpart who visit Earth.

Heres a peek at the first trailer.

Blindness

A city is ravaged by an epidemic of instant "white blindness". Those first afflicted are quarantined by the authorities in an abandoned mental hospital where the newly created "society of the blind" quickly breaks down. Criminals and the physically powerful prey upon the weak, hording the meager food rations and committing horrific acts. There is however one eyewitness to the nightmare. A woman whose sight is unaffected by the plague follows her afflicted husband to quarantine. There, keeping her sight a secret, she guides seven strangers who have become, in essence, a family. She leads them out of quarantine and onto the ravaged streets of the city, which has seen all vestiges of civilization crumble. Their voyage is fraught with danger, yet their survival and ultimate redemption reflect the tenacity and depth of the human spirit. Written by Festival de Cannes' Editor

Confidential) star in Traitor, a taut international thriller set against a jigsaw puzzle of covert counter- espionage operations. Traitor is written and directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (screenwriter of The Day After Tomorrow). The inter-agency task force looking into the case meets with Carter (Jeff Daniels), a veteran CIA contractor who seemingly has his own agenda and Max Archer (Neal McDonough), a fellow FBI agent. The task force links Horn to a prison break in Yemen, a bombing in Nice and a raid in London, but a tangle of contradictory evidence emerges, forcing Clayton to question whether his quarry is a disaffected former military operative — or something far more complicated.
